Black Onyx is an ancient gemstone, used in jewelry and as ornaments for carvings since antiquity. Onyx has traditionally been one of the most important engraving and cameo gemstones, where its most common form was a black base with a white upper layer. In its solid black form, onyx is the most traditional black gemstone. Still used as a gemstone today, onyx is significant in style and value. Our Sebastien Grey rendering of the black onyx Gemstone is cut, polished and placed flush into a silver finish, accentuating the luster of the natural gemstone.

Mother of Pearl is the common name for the iridescent nacre that is a blend of minerals secreted by oysters and other mollusks. This nacre is deposited inside their shells, coating and protecting them from parasites and foreign objects.  This iridescent, smooth layer makes up the outer coating of pearls. It is strong, resilient, and beautifully opalescent.

The lustrous colors absorb and reflect light in the most elegant way. No two are ever the same. Sebastien Grey’s version is set into a silver polish finish, with rounded edges for a subtle luxurious appeal.

The Gordian Knot often describes a complicated and difficult problem. The history behind the knot comes from Greek mythology when the peasant Gordius became king of Gordium in Phrygia. Gordius dedicated his wagon to Jupiter and fastened its yoke to a beam with a very complex knot, the Gordian Knot. Centuries later, when Alexander the Great arrived on the scene, he was told that he could not conquer and rule Asia unless he proved himself worthy by untying the knot. Alexander quickly solved the problem by slicing the knot in half with his sword and consequently gained a new kingdom.

This story reminds us to not over-think problems, and to always think outside the box. Our Sebastian Grey Gordian Knot Cufflinks is an ode to thinking outside the box with our brand and how we approach knot-so-standard problems.

Graceful and sophisticated, the Gordion knot is a timeless cufflink that compliments any dress shirt.

Houndstooth originated in Scotland in the 1800s, originally worn as an outer garment of woven wool cloth by shepherds. The duo-tone pattern is characterized by its abstract four-pointed shapes, most often in black and white. When it was first created, the pattern was referred to as Shepherd’s Check or Dogstooth. The smaller version of this print is referred to as puppy’s tooth.

During the 1930s, the houndstooth pattern was adopted by the upper class as a symbol of wealth. Forever a classic, our iteration is realized as a piece of jewelry that combines our modern bespoke style, and pays homage to its originators.
